Regency Receives 2020 Green Lease Leader Award for Sustainability

Written by Regency Centers | Jun 8

Regency received the 2020 Green Lease Leader award. Granted by the Institute for Market Transformation and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Alliance, the honor recognizes forward-thinking companies and real estate practitioners who break down barriers to high-performance buildings by revolutionizing leases to incorporate energy efficiency and sustainability.

This recognition is a result of Regency Centers' commitment and dedication to implementing sustainability practices including the Tenant Sustainability Guide, which is provided to merchants upon commencement of their lease and contains tips and advice on how to be more sustainable.

The Green Lease Leaders program is a reflection of dozens of conversations with commercial, retail, and industrial real estate leaders and other leasing stakeholders, as well as market progress in green, also known as "energy- and water-aligned" or "high-performance" leasing. The cumulative floor area managed by Green Lease Leaders is now nearly 3 billion square feet, representing a huge potential for growth in green leases.

We work with our merchants to make our centers sustainable, which is a key piece of our environmental stewardship program,” said Kirrin Winning, Senior Manager, Corporate Responsibility. “And we will continue to find ways to partner with our merchants in this important area.

It’s an honor to be recognized as a Green Lease Leader,” said Mark Peternell, Vice President of Sustainability. “By structuring our leases to better align incentives for sustainability and energy efficiency, we are helping the entire shopping center to reduce its environmental impact.
