This is my favorite gift exchange idea with friends! A Favorite Things party encourages guests to gift something that they have discovered that they absolutely love—favorite lip gloss, seasoning, cozy socks, a gadget, etc. I LOVE having these parties before the holidays because it also gives me thoughtful but simple gift ideas for others! Plus, it’s a really fun way to spend time with friends and discover new life hacks or “things you never knew you needed!”
There are several ways to host a “Favorite Things” party, here are two different ways to structure your party:
Hostess Checklist:
- Regardless of which “style” of party you choose, set a price cap for guests to spend on their favorite items/gifts.
- Decide how many items each person should bring to the exchange.
- Determine who’s making or bringing food. Idea: Have everyone bring a favorite appetizer or dessert!
- Include gift exchange details and price caps in the invite. Tip: Evite has a “Favorite Things” theme as a party option!
White Elephant Style Party
- Have guests bring a “favorite thing” wrapped.
- Draw numbers from a bowl to determine the order of gift opening.
- Each guest either selects a gift to open or steals (2 steal limit per person).
- As gifts are opened, the giver explains why it’s a favorite item. Continue until every gift has been accounted for!
3 for 3 Style Party
- Each guest brings 3 favorite things.
- When guests arrive, have them write their name on 3 pieces of paper, fold it and drop it into a bowl.
- Each person draws 3 names out of the bowl (redraw if you have repeated names or draw your own name).
- The names drawn will receive your 3 favorite things.
