While Palmer says the social experience won't change how consumers shop and goods are delivered, she does believe the following five areas will experience change going forward:

• Technology
• Data analytics
• Artificial intelligence
• Online ordering
• Autonomous vehicles

She notes that every successful retailer, whether they are a provider of goods or services — including restaurants, banks, personal care and fitness centers — will need to adapt.

You could sit on your couch today and do everything that you need to do," said Lisa Palmer, Regency Centers' President and CEO. "You don’t have to leave your house, but people want to leave. There’s a social element to it.

Among those sharing insights in the new year were Jacksonville's Brian Wolfberg, CEO of VyStar Credit Union; Matthew Bridgewater, CEO of Gem Products, Inc.; Lori Boyer, CEO of the Downtown Investment Authority; and Jim Stallings, founder of PS27 Ventures.
