Round up your grandma and mark your calendar for this Sunday, October 22, the official “Bring Your Grandma to McDonald’s Day.” When you arrive, snap a picture together, and share it on Instagram or Twitter — remembering to tag @McDonalds using #ButtermilkCrispyTenders and #Sweepstakes for a chance to win $3,500 toward a weekend getaway for two.

What the fast food giant is wisely marketing as a celebration of family, heritage, and food, may actually accomplish more than a little buzz in the retail and restaurant industry. Using several social media platforms to drive the campaign, McDonald’s seeks to gain credibility for their newest menu item, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, from one of the most trusted sources on the planet — grandma. Described as confident and modern with an implied “Approved By Grandma” theme, the new campaign by We Are Unlimited features seven spots and supporting materials in which grandma’s embrace or bemoan the idea of a burger and fries place making buttermilk chicken as good as the ones grandmas make.
