Regency's Philadelphia Team Supports 'Women Against Abuse' Nonprofit

Written by Regency Centers | Jan 14

Over the holidays, Regency offices around the country celebrated the season by giving back in unique, new ways. At Regency’s Philadelphia office in particular, the team collectively decided to trade in their annual holiday dinner, and instead, purchased holiday gifts for a local family in need through the Women Against Abuse organization.

As Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence advocate and service provider, the Women Against Abuse mission is to provide quality, compassionate, and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in those experiencing intimate partner violence. Women Against Abuse strives to provide a continuum of care—from telephone crisis counseling to long-term supportive housing—in a manner t'hat promotes victim safety, autonomy and dignity.

After such a challenging year for all of us, my wife and I decided to do something good during the holidays to give back to the community,” said David Sherin, Senior Leasing Agent. “A very close friend introduced us to Women Against Abuse, and in addition to supporting the organization as a family, I thought it would be a great idea to get the Regency team involved, too.

Together, Regency’s Philadelphia office members were able to purchase every single item on a wish list of Christmas gifts that was created by a local single mother and her children.

'Adopting a family’ to support over the holidays was an incredible opportunity for our office to bring some light into the lives of those who needed it most,” said LaVena Sanders-Decastro, Executive Assistant and Office Manager. "It was an amazing experience to give back through an organization that’s doing such important work for survivors of domestic abuse in our community. I can only imagine the look on the children’s faces when they opened their gifts on Christmas morning.

A 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, Women Against Abuse is among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. Click here for more information on how to get involved, and learn more about Regency's commitment to philanthropy and corporate responsibility here.
