Written by Regency Centers | Apr 25

REI Co-Op recently held a successful grand opening weekend at Regency’s Walker Center in Beaverton, OR. Now the largest REI Co-op location in the state of Oregon, this merchant opening is part of Walker Center’s current redevelopment, which is slated for completion in Summer 2024.

Welcoming more than 10,000 guests and with appearances from more than 30 vendor brands and 10 nonprofit partners, REI handed out nearly 1,500 pieces of swag and showcased representation from its in-house partners including the REI Cooperative Action Network and the REI Cooperative Action Fund.

Since 1938, REI has served as a premier local Co-op to help others experience the transformational power of nature through top-quality gear and apparel, expert advice, rental equipment, inspiring stories, and more. This particular (39,000 SF) location also features a bike shop and service center, as well as a ski and snowboard shop offering professional tuning, waxing, and repairs.

We couldn’t be happier to welcome REI Co-op to Walker Center,” said Kurt Utterback, Vice President, Market Officer, Regency Centers. “REI’s commitments to steward the outdoors, support sustainable business, and help the fight for life outside align beautifully with the values of not only Regency Centers, but the greater Beaverton and Portland communities it will serve for years to come.

Regency Centers also proudly donated $10,000 to REI’s Cooperative Action Fund and additional local community partners including Northwest Trail Alliance, an organization committed to creating, enhancing, and protecting mountain bike riding opportunities, including advocating for trail access, promoting responsible mountain biking, and building sustainable trails.

Working with the REI team to bring the Co-op to Walker Center has been an incredible experience from the very beginning, and we’re just getting started,” said Rachel Fajardo, Property Manager, Regency Centers. “We’ve heard nothing but excitement from our neighbors and fellow merchants about this addition to the community, and look forward to all that the future of this location will bring.

Located in a major retail hub at a high-volume intersection with hard-corner visibility, Walker Center features key merchants including REI Co-op, Kaiser Permanente, Blick Art Materials, Massage Envy, Norco Medical Supplies, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and more.
