Whether they’re hungry for a memorable dining experience or searching for the latest fashions, visitors are in for a treat at Regency’s Carytown Exchange. The Richmond, Virginia, shopping center recently leveled up its retail experience with the addition of Burtons Grill & Bar and Monkee’s boutique.
Freshly opened since June 20, Massachusetts-based Burtons Grill & Bar brings a taste of coastal New England to Virginia. The 5,486 SF space at Carytown Exchange marks the chain’s 19th restaurant opening, with additional locations along the east coast.
While every opening is personal, this one is significant. Richmond is my home," said John Haggai, Chief Executive Officer of Burtons Grill. Having the opportunity to bring one of our restaurants to my hometown in tandem with Regency Centers holds special weight.
Emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients, Burtons focuses on contemporary American dishes tailored to each restaurant location. Their Richmond menu features classics such as Crab Cakes, Chicken & Wild Mushroom Ravioli, and Filet Mignon — all prepared from a scratch kitchen. This forward-thinking culinary approach allows the restaurant to cater to various dietary preferences, earning Burtons Grill the title of number-one most allergy-friendly multi-unit restaurant.
The success of Carytown Exchange can be directly measured by the quality of our tenants,” said Nate Smith, Vice President. “Burtons is the perfect fit for this location and is an overall value-add to the area. We couldn’t be happier to bring such a fantastic operator to the market.
Burtons Grill & Bar is open for lunch, dinner, happy hour, and private dining.
Leigh Sewell, the former CEO of Memorial Regional Medical Center, stepped away from her high-ranking position to open Monkee’s of Richmond at Carytown Exchange.
Sewell entered the healthcare field to better advocate for her daughter, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and work toward a “greater good.” Still, she remained interested in fashion and dreamed of owning her own business one day. Now, 17 years later, she’s taking a career leap to open a Monkee’s boutique.
Despite stepping down as hospital CEO to pursue this venture, Sewell has no plans to abandon her background in healthcare. In fact, she intends to host “Shop with A Doc” nights, where women can listen to a brief health presentation at the store, then stay to shop and chat one-on-one with a doctor.
Monkee’s offers an intimate, upscale shopping experience, and the brand strives to create an environment where customers are known by name. The popular franchise is based in North Carolina and will soon have 45 boutiques selling women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories. Sewell, who frequented the Carytown Exchange Starbucks on her morning commute, knew the shopping center was perfect for the newest Monkee's location.
I couldn’t be more excited for Monkee’s of Richmond to open at Carytown Exchange," said Allison Wiggs, Senior Leasing Agent. "I'm a huge fan and loyal customer of the brand, as the boutique started in my hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. It's my go-to for current fashion and accessories. They'll have much success joining other amazing tenants such as Burton’s Grill, Jeni’s Ice Creams, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Torchy’s, and many others opening soon.
The 1,800 SF storefront is situated near Torchy’s Tacos and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. A grand opening event will be held August 11 to 13, featuring trunk shows by Smith & Co. and La Feme. Guests can enjoy a free gift with purchase while supplies last.
Carytown Exchange reflects the local neighborhood flavor with a mix of regional and national merchants. The 115,322 SF property features key retailers such as CVS and Publix. For additional leasing information, contact AllisonWiggs@recencycenters.com.
