The Market at Springwoods Village was recently Houston's first multi-tenant retail development to be awarded a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The property is a joint venture between Regency Centers and Coventry Development Corporation. The designation marks the 18th LEED-certified shopping center in the Regency portfolio since 2009. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USBGC,) the LEED rating system is the foremost program for recognizing best-in-class strategies and practices for green building.
Building shopping centers has an impact on people, communities and the world we live. As developers we should be mindful to meet the needs of the present without compromising the means of future generations,” said Abe Pacetti, Vice President of Investments at Regency Centers. “The Market at Springwoods Village is Regency’s first LEED development in Texas and the first multi-tenant retail development in Houston to achieve LEED Certification. We’re all proud to be associated with such an achievement.
In partnership with Gensler, CDC Houston has developed guidelines for sustainability at Springwoods Village. This includes all commercial, residential, retail and other development, and will act as a catalyst for future development partners to prioritize LEED and additional sustainability-focused ventures. The efforts of The Market at Springwoods Village have also sparked interest with retailers who prioritize sustainable practices, making way for future merchants to operate and expand LEED certification in the community.
