Wegmans to Open First NYC Storefront at Brooklyn's Admirals Row

Start spreading the news: Wegmans Food Markets is making its Big Apple debut. On October 27, the Rochester-based grocer will open the doors to its 74,000 SF location in Brooklyn’s Admirals Row (formerly known as Navy Yard) development, a much-anticipated addition to its other 49+ stores located in New York state (and counting). Other locations in the mid-Atlantic and New England regions include Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia.

Digital rendering of Wegmans in New York CityFeaturing more than 60,000 products — and 4,000 of them being organic — the Wegmans inventory will include an extensive assortment of restaurant-quality prepared foods and 300 varieties of imported and domestic cheese. Fresh seafood will be delivered whole and cut to order daily, and the store will include a second-floor mezzanine featuring a bar that will serve food, wine, beer and spirits.

Recruitment for 150 full-time employees began in January. On the part-time front, Wegmans is now hiring and training for 350 positions. “Although the opening is still several months away, new employees begin in-depth training soon after they’re hired so that they’re knowledgeable and fully prepared to deliver incredible customer service,” noted store manager Kevin Cuff, according to Chain Store Age. “Wegmans has a long-standing reputation as an exceptional employer, with tremendous opportunity for career growth and development.”
