Chipotle Making Strides Toward a Sustainable Future

In an effort to contribute to a more sustainable future and in partnership with RiverRoad Waste Solutions, Chipotle Mexican Grill has set a goal to divert half of its restaurant waste from landfills by 2020.Chipotle chips and guacamole in brown bagImplementing initiatives like The Mindful Prep – which trains staff to minimize food waste during the food preparation process – to more in-store recycling and compost programs, to waste audits and more eco-friendly packaging products, the popular Mexican chain is on track toward its goal of ensuring a company-wide recycling practice over the next two years. (This will include 48 Regency Centers locations.)

“Increasing our waste diversion rate to 50 percent is an ambitious goal, but we feel it's important to be assertive in our efforts to advance our purpose,” said Caitlin Leibert, head of sustainability at Chipotle, according to Meat Poultry. “We remain deeply dedicated to bringing guests great tasting food while upholding Chipotle’s values and commitment to food made with respect for the land and environment.”
