The Crossing Clarendon in Arlington, VA, is flourishing as a vibrant hub for the arts, providing local creators with a new space to showcase their talent. Regency Centers recently donated a 1,000 SF space to Arlington Artists Alliance, which will feature curated exhibitions with the best art Arlington has to offer.
Arlington Artists Alliance is a non-profit formed by working artists who wanted to make local art more accessible in the Arlington community. The organization aims to champion a vibrant visual arts community by providing exhibition space, studios, professional development, and creative experiences for Arlington’s community. In this sense, the new gallery is pivotal in the Alliance’s mission, offering a dedicated venue for artists to present their work to the community.
We’re so focused on placemaking right now, making sure Arlington residents and visitors feel like they have a sense of belonging here, and we want to do that through showcasing local artists,” said Christina Papanicolaou, Executive Director, Arlington Artists Alliance. “It’s just such a great location, and The Crossing already has such an amazing community kind of vibe.
After the space was turned over, the Alliance invested significantly to beautify and enhance its appearance while maintaining its industrial charm. They added lighting, installed drywall, and created a partition to make the space more functional and inviting.
The inaugural showcase is titled “As Astra Per Aspera,” which translates to “through hardships to the stars” in Latin. Featured artworks represent empowerment in all forms — from gender or racial empowerment to self-empowerment. Visitors can explore the exhibition now through August 18, after which a new one will take its place. Exhibitions will rotate every six weeks, offering a diverse selection of artistic expressions and themes.
The Alliance Gallery was a great opportunity to bring new vibrancy to this part of the property and show our shared commitment to the community,” said EJ Enciso, General Manager - The Crossing Clarendon. “What it lacks in terms of rental income, it more than makes up for in placemaking as it creates a valuable venue for the community to appreciate and engage with local art.
Situated in the breezeway between SoulCycle and ChipCity, the Alliance Gallery is free and open to the public on Thursdays through Sundays from 12 to 6 p.m.
