Dale Johnston Presents IT Scholarship to Local Student at Jacksonville IT Council

Dale Johnston, Regency Centers Senior Vice President and CIO, recently presented a college scholarship to Zackery Bellerose, a local San Jose Academy & Preparatory High School student and Jacksonville native, at the Northeast Florida CIO Council's Annual Tech Coast Conference in Jacksonville, FL.

The Tech Coast Conference is a non-profit IT conference that provides a forum for local businesses, IT decision makers, technology innovators from around the world, and the skilled local talent pool to present, discuss and share IT-related advances, opportunities and solutions.

Johnston chairs the IT Talent Development subcommittee and NEFL CIO Council, and serves as the liaison and coordinator between The Florida State College at Jacksonville and University of North Florida, and the two partners, the JITC and NEFL CIO Council. Together a scholarship is presented.

The scholarships aim to encourage students to pursue IT-related Dale Johnston majors and keep them engaged during their academic careers to improve the likelihood of them graduating and joining the local Northeast Florida IT workforce," Johnston said. "We believe that showing the student bodies of our two largest, local IT education institutions that local businesses are engaged and available. We will increase the number of IT talent available to our IT leader members.
Scholarships are one of several Northeast Florida CIO Council initiatives that combined, lead to improved technology cohesiveness, incubation, innovation, and capability in the area. Examples of others are an annual NEFL high/middle school computer fair, internships, speakers bureau, classroom volunteering, and supporting IT user groups.
 
This year's scholarship recipient, Zackery Bellerose, received $2,500 toward tuition. Regency Centers was a contributor.
