Popular midwest ice cream shop, Freezing Cow, recently celebrated the grand opening of its fifth location at Bluebonnet Village Shopping Center in Baton Rouge, LA.
Tulsa-based Freezing Cow's new Baton Rouge shop is the only location outside of Oklahoma. The 1,420 SF store faces Bluebonnet Boulevard and has great street visibility. The shop is a bright, open space with plenty of natural light and room to showcase the ice cream as it is being prepared. When walking in the doors, guests will find a chalkboard menu displaying all flavors and topping choices.

What is drawing crowds to this shop? Its rolled ice cream. The idea originated in Thailand and it is a trend that has been popping up in ice cream shops across the country. Along with the concept, Freezing Cow created its menu with a variety of fun flavors. Ingredients include both traditional items like candy, fruit, and cookies; but they also add a twist by offering choices for tea and coffee enthusiasts. The Green Tea Lover touts green tea, banana and kiwi. There's also a Cow’s Latte — their featured coffee ice cream.
When customers visit the shop, they are getting more than just ice cream, but also an experience. Visitors get to watch their frozen creation from start to finish. The process is simple and only takes a few minutes. First, a metal base is chilled at 23 degrees below zero. Next, ice cream is poured onto the base along with the ingredients and blended together. Then, the mixture is spread across the base where it will freeze instantly. At this point, it is ready to be rolled with a spatula, and then placed in a bowl with additional toppings for garnishing.
The grand opening could not have come at a better time to kick off the summer! There were crowds waiting in line to try this new craze that has been trending on social media. The owners are considering expansion throughout Louisiana, in Lafayette, Shreveport, and Lake Charles.
“We are very excited Freezing Cow opened and feel that they are a great addition to the center," said Rylea Ducote, Regency Centers' Property Administrator, Houston Property Operations. "The day the shop opened, it was immediately a hit in the community."
