In Raleigh, North Carolina, Regency Centers recently celebrated a landmark moment at the groundbreaking of the Oberlin Hotel, a 115,000 SF boutique hotel coming soon to the Village District shopping center.
The Oberlin Hotel is being developed as part of the Curio Collection by Hilton Hotels, a global portfolio of hotels with one-of-a-kind stories to share, and will be the first of its kind in the area.
Dating back to the 1860s, the Oberlin name is deeply rooted in the Raleigh community. It originates from Oberlin Village, a community established by freed slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Quality Oil Company, the hotel’s developer, plans to pay homage to this rich history by decorating the property with artwork and descriptions of the men and women who built the neighborhood.
The seven-story hotel will offer 153 well-appointed guest rooms and several presidential suites. It will also include a market-style café, spacious lounge, and full cocktail bar. An outdoor courtyard and covered patio will feature a soundstage for live music, beverage service, and event catering. On the sixth floor, an upscale restaurant and rooftop bar will highlight stunning views of downtown Raleigh.
Construction is slated to begin this summer and will take approximately two years to complete.
Oberlin Hotel’s arrival to Village District is not only a great addition to our existing lineup, but also an overall benefit to the corridor,” said Chris Widmayer, Senior Vice President, Investments. “This center is the beating heart of the market and now has a fantastic overnight option that helps make Village District a true 18-hour destination. We couldn’t be happier and encourage anyone looking to visit to see what sets them apart.
Village District is the southeast’s original lifestyle center near Raleigh’s central business district and North Carolina State University. Boasting over five million annual visits, the 599,902 SF shopping center serves the Raleigh-Cary market with a merchandising mix that includes Walgreens, Barnes & Noble, The Fresh Market, and Sephora.
