Regency's Village District Gears Up for 75th Anniversary Celebration

Since 1949, shoppers have been visiting Regency’s Village District to shop, dine, gather, and play. Not only is it the oldest shopping center in the southeast, but it’s also been a neighborhood staple in Raleigh, NC, for 75 years and counting. Now, the center invites residents and visitors to celebrate its milestone anniversary with special events, live musical performances, pop-ups, giveaways, and promotions all year long.

A Legacy of Tradition

Back in the 1970s and early 80s, Village District was home to a booming music scene at The Village Subway, which got its name from its NYC-like subway entrance. Also commonly known as Raleigh Underground, the entertainment complex was located beneath what is now occupied by The Fresh Market. This space hosted talents like The Ramones, The Police, Iggy Pop, The Fabulous Knobs, Pat Benetar, Merle Haggard, Dizzy Gillespie, Bette Midler, The Bangles, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Buffett, and many more.

Getting the Party Started

The festivities kick off April 20, 2024 at the 75th Anniversary Celebration event. The free block party will feature food trucks, specialty pop-up vendors, live music, giveaways, a kid-friendly area, and more from 3 to 8 p.m. Boat House Row, a popular yacht rock band from Pennsylvania, will headline the event along with support from local artists.

Cheers to 75 Years

Village District has partnered with Standard Beer + Food, a local brewing company, on an exclusive anniversary brew. Village 75 is a citrusy 7.5% ABV beer that will be available both canned and on draft at Village District.

Event attendees who are 21 and up will receive one free pour of Village 75 with valid identification. Following the 75th Anniversary Celebration event, it will be available at select local and national restaurants and retailers for the remainder of the year.

Eyes On the Future

Throughout the year, keep an eye out for several exciting grand openings, new art and murals, and a variety of 75th anniversary swag — including Yeti tumblers, t-shirts, cups, and bags — as the celebrations continue. Additional details are to be announced.
